Artist Bio

Katherine (or Kat) Silvera-Sunley is a Jamaican woman who has lived in a few places, ending up in an old cold mining town in the valleys of Wales. She studied Fine Art in Bristol England but has been developing her art practice for a long time before that. She grew an interest in ceramics when she was living in Malta as a way to make her art more portable. She creates in her home studio, and loves making art that people can access both financially and intellectually. She believes that there is a place in the world of contemporary / fine art, for work that allows us to access whatever emotion it is we want to access- be that happiness or sadness, without it being something exclusive, complicated or highly conceptual in nature.

Outline

Join us for a brilliant porcelain workshop with Kat Silvera-Sunley. Kat will show you how she makes exquisite tiny charms and keepsakes using porcelain and wire.

First Kat will demonstrate for you how to bring to life an idea you may have for a charm, then you will add some much needed kilnwire to your bespoke piece, finishing with painting and decorating.

You will each have the opportunity to make 4 small charms. Kat will be there to guide you through the whole process- as this workshop designed to be open to people of all artistic levels, supported by her expert tuition. Kat will then take these works in progress back to her studio, where once they are dry enough she will begin firing them a total of 3 times. Including the last time to add gold lustre (if you choose)

After which we will arrange for you to collect your creations from the gallery at a later date.

No prior experience is needed and all materials will be included.

High quality artist led workshops are at the heart of what we do here at Mission Gallery. Every ticket purchase contributes towards our Outreach Programme and supports fair compensation for our talented artists.

Due to our venue’s capacity, spaces are limited. If you book onto one of our workshops we would ask you to honour your commitment to attend.

We aim for our workshops to be as accessible as possible, but would ask that you make a donation on the day if you can. Please consider contributing if you are able to support the future workshop and education programmes at Mission Gallery.

Bywgraffiad o’r artist

Mae Katherine (neu Kat) Silvera-Sunley yn fenyw o Jamaica sydd wedi byw mewn ychydig o lefydd, gan gyrraedd hen dref lofaol oer yng nghymoedd Cymru yn y pen draw. Astudiodd Celfyddyd Gain ym Mryste yn Lloegr ond roedd wedi bod yn datblygu ei hymarfer celf ers tro byd cyn hynny. Magodd ddiddordeb mewn cerameg pan roedd hi’n byw ym Malta fel ffordd o wneud ei chelf yn haws ei gludo. Mae hi’n creu yn ei stiwdio gartref, ac mae hi wrth ei bodd yn creu celf sydd o fewn cyrraedd pobl yn ariannol ac yn ddeallusol. Mae hi’n credu bod lle mewn celfyddyd gyfoes / celfyddyd gain, i waith sy’n caniatáu i ni gael mynediad at ba emosiwn bynnag y mae arnom eisiau ei gael – boed hynny’n hapusrwydd neu’n dristwch, heb iddo fod yn rhywbeth egsgliwsif, cymhleth neu gysyniadol iawn ei natur.

Crynodeb o’r Gweithdy

Dewch atom am weithdy porslen gwych gyda Kat Silvera-Sunley. Bydd Kat yn dangos i chi sut mae hi’n gwneud tlysau a thrysorau bach drwy ddefnyddio porslen a gwifren.

Yn gyntaf, bydd Kat yn dangos i chi sut mae gwireddu syniad a allai fod gennych ar gyfer tlws, yna byddwch yn ychwanegu gwifren odyn i’ch darn arbennig, gan ei orffen drwy baentio ac addurno.

Bydd pob un ohonoch yn cael cyfle i wneud 4 tlws bach. Bydd Kat yno i'ch tywys drwy'r broses gyfan - gan fod y gweithdy hwn wedi'i gynllunio i fod yn agored i bobl o bob lefel artistig, gyda chefnogaeth ei hyfforddiant arbenigol. Yna, bydd Kat yn mynd â’r gweithiau hyn yn ôl i’w stiwdio, a phan fyddan nhw’n ddigon sych, bydd yn dechrau eu tanio a bydd hynny’n cael ei wneud 3 gwaith. Gan gynnwys i ychwanegu sglein aur (os ydych chi’n dewis) y tro olaf

Ar ôl hynny, byddwn yn trefnu i chi gasglu eich creadigaethau o’r oriel

Nid oes angen profiad blaenorol, a bydd yr holl ddeunyddiau’n cael eu cynnwys fel rhan o’r gweithdy.

Mae gweithdai o ansawdd uchel sy’n cael eu harwain gan artistiaid yn ganolig i’r gwaith rydyn ni’n ei wneud yma yn Oriel Mission. Mae pob tocyn sy’n cael eu prynu’n cyfrannu at ein Rhaglen Allgymorth, ac mae’n cefnogi iawndal teg i’n hartistiaid talentog.

Oherwydd capasiti ein lleoliad, mae lleoedd yn brin. Os byddwch yn cadw lle yn un o'n gweithdai, gofynnwn i chi gadw at eich ymrwymiad i fod yn bresennol.

Rydym eisiau i’n gweithdai fod mor hygyrch â phosibl ond rydym yn gofyn i chi roi cyfraniad ariannol ar y diwrnod os gallwch chi. Ystyriwch gyfrannu os gallwch chi er mwyn cefnogi’r gweithdai a’r rhaglenni addysg yn Oriel Mission yn y dyfodol.
