Description:

Lynn Pan (1946-2024), renowned writer, journalist, social scientist, historian and cultural advocate was born in Shanghai. She was the founding Director of the Chinese Heritage Centre and worked as a social scientist, journalist and writer in London, Cambridge, Geneva, Helsinki Shanghai and Hong Kong. She was a prolific writer with very broad interests and in addition to a great many articles published over ten books, including In Search of Old Shanghai, Old Shanghai: Gangsters in Paradise, Into China’s Heart: An Émigré’s Journey Along the Yellow River, Sons of the Yellow Emperor, The New Chinese Revolution, True to Form: A Celebration of the Art of the Chinese Craftsman, The Encyclopedia of the Chinese Overseas, Tracing It Home, Shanghai Style: Art and Design Between the Wars and When True Love Came to China. She had a great interest in Chinese gardens and was working on a book when she died last year.
