Denise Tang

Denise is Head and Associate Professor in the Department of Cultural Studies at Lingnan University, Hong Kong. Her research specializes in gender and sexualities. Prior to entering academia, Tang was program manager, HIV testing counsellor and treatment advocate for communities including Asian & Pacific Islander LGBTQI+, First Nations women, and others.

Wing Yan Ng

Yan worked as a news and feature editor in Ming Pao Weekly, covering stories of social issues for Book B. Her work can be found in various media outlets including Initium Media, HK Feature and Yahoo OLO. Core member of producing the book 大愛同誌. Co-author of the book Oral Histories of Older Lesbians and Bisexual Women in Hong Kong and New Ideals actualized by Young Social Entrepreneurs in Hong Kong.

Description:

Through the voices of older lesbians and bisexual women in Hong Kong, this groundbreaking book turned documentary offers a rare and intimate glimpse into the lives, struggles, and triumphs of a marginalised community. These oral histories reveal personal stories of love, resilience, identity, and resistance in the face of societal expectations and shifting cultural norms. By exploring themes of family, relationships, activism and belonging, the book provides a rich tapestry of experiences that reflect the intersection of gender, sexuality, and age in contemporary Hong Kong. A powerful contribution to LGBTQ+ and oral history literature, it celebrates voices often left unheard.
