Urban Farm at Toronto Metropolitan University

The Urban Farm operates two green roofs on campus to produce and distribute food, facilitate research across disciplines, and engage the community in rooftop farming, ecology and food justice. This includes growing food, medicines and plants that are culturally significant to many communities by applying diverse knowledge, foodways, and growing techniques. With a vision and mandate to see more productive green roofs in Toronto and beyond, the Urban Farm is a Living Lab where people come together to experiment, learn, and connect. Headquartered at TMU’s two rooftop farms, the Living Lab builds on user-driven research needs that respond to the challenges of designing and operating a rooftop farm using green roof technology.
